Glitter or Glass?

What is Fiberglass?

Fiberglass is small, almost microscopic, piece of glass that many manufacturers use as a fire retardant. It’s so small many people mistake the shards of glass for glitter.

How did it get into my home?

The most common source of fiberglass contamination we hear about here at Cueto Law is from fiberglass mattresses.

Zinus is the most well-known mattress brand with fiberglass in it. Our clients experienced contamination when the zippable cover of their mattress was removed or damaged.

However, any mattress with fiberglass poses a risk to your health.

We are currently accepting clients who have been harmed by their Zinus mattress or any other brand.

Are there health concerns?

When you first discover that glass masquerading as glitter, you might be concerned about touching it or breathing it in. And you should be!

Prolonged exposure can lead to many many different medical problems, including

  • Rashes on skin
  • Eye irritation
  • Soreness of the nose and throat
  • Stomach irritation
  • Bronchitis and Asthma from long term exposure

The only way to minimize the risks and make your home safe to live in again is to decontaminate it, which can involve hiring professional cleaners and replacing ventilation systems.

Also, keep in mind that fiberglass can be hazardous to your pets as well. Make sure to call your vet!

Is it expensive to clean?

Professional cleaners are not cheap, and expenses can be burdensome. That is why we at Cueto Law are fighting to get our clients compensation for what we believe to be design flaws in these bed-in-the-box mattresses.
