Facts about Fiberglass in Mattresses

People use mattresses as a place to rest and relax. Sadly, many families have had their lives upended after their Zinus mattress leaked fiberglass and contaminated their homes.

Fiberglass is a common component of many mattresses. It acts as a fire retardant. However, Zinus LLC, a common bed-in-a-box mattress manufacturer, did not adequately warn their customers of the fiberglass inside their mattress and its problems with leaking and contamination. Additionally, we believe Zinus mattresses have a defective design which resulted in fiberglass contamination.

When consumers removed the zippable mattress cover to wash it, fiberglass contaminated their homes. Sometimes fiberglass contamination occurred even if consumers did not remove the cover.

Fiberglass consists of small, almost invisible, pieces of glass. When released in the air of a family home, it can cause damage to the occupants of the home, their pets, and their property.

Common damage Fiberglass causes include

  • Rashes on skin
  • Eye irritation
  • Stomach problems
  • Soreness of the nose and throat
  • Stomach irritation
  • Bronchitis and Asthma from long term exposure
